Imagine being back in the 60’s if you will, my Mum and Dad waking us up at 2 o’clock in the morning so we could miss the traffic. Car piled high with the tent and suitcases, with the obligatory flapping polythene held in place by bungee hooks.
No motorways at all so the drive from Solihull used to take about 10 hours. With the M42 and M5 plus our arterial road the A30, it now takes about 4 hours.
Thus started my love of Cornwall from about the age of 5. I used to cry on the way home and moved down when I was a teenager, which before you ask, was a very long time ago! Thank you Mum and Dad for our holidays!
And who remembers Space Hoppers? I used to spend hours bouncing around our garden and have recently bought a grown up one …… such fun!
Apart from living in Florida (where I learnt to be a Realtor) I have resided in Cornwall ever since! I’ve had some really bad times in amongst the good, but when I look back through photos I realise how very blessed I am with the life I have now created for myself.
From being a realtor in the states to an estate agent in Cornwall, life has been hard work but interesting, resulting in me eventually owning my own property search business ‘Live Beside the Sea’, helping clients relocate to Cornwall. My business was award winning, and I soon became known as the Kirsty of Cornwall!
I go sailing, sea swimming, coastal walking and am a lady what lunches – so am definitely living the dream!
Alas, I soon became a ‘lady of a certain age’ and was getting burnt out; so I sold my business, downsized my house which released capital to buy The Studio, Cape Cornwall.
Although I have been in property for years, I had absolutely no experience in the holiday letting industry. So it has been a baptism of fire, but I must be doing something right as I get 5* reviews, repeat bookings AND I’ve had 2 proposals at The Studio (well not me, guests on bended knee looking out to sea brandishing massive diamonds!)
My creative juices flowed as I designed the coastal decor, my business head was on as I painfully learnt how to master Airbnb, and The Studio, Cape Cornwall was launched in June 2024.
I chose this gorgeous bijou bolt hole, not just because of the views and the stunning location, but because it is holiday let restricted so I am not taking away from a first time buyer.
Why not book your staycation, and fall in love with West Cornwall as well, with its coastal cliff top walks, creative vibes and interesting mining history?
